Micromilspec Introduce the Monogram Featuring Personalised Dial Insignia

Over the course of 2024, Norwegian microbrand Micromilspec has been gathering momentum at an incredible rate now that they produce civilian watches alongside their previous military partnerships to become a seriously underrated force in the tool watch scene. Watches like the Milgraph offer a huge amount of utility for a solid, mid-range price. Their latest launch, the Micromilspec Monogram dials back on some of the more tactical elements in favour of a more everyday carry sort of vibe in addition to featuring a cool customisable element.

My choice of words in saying everyday carry instead of a more traditional watch-related phrase such as daily beater is no accident. “Milspec” is a part of “Micromilspec” after all. Just because this watch isn’t kitted up to the nines with additional features for use in the field (it’s a time only model) doesn’t mean there isn’t a military edge.

For example, upon first inspection of the dial (available in white or black), it features a fairly refined pattern with intersecting lines creating a diamond motif. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it elegant but there’s a certain confident style to it like wearing dark jeans to a formal event and daring someone to call you out on it. However, if you know your guns, you’ll instantly recognise it as the pattern used on Glock pistol grips.

At 6 o’clock is a small subdial, which is this watch’s party piece. Rather than serve a mechanical function, this small subdial is fully customisable upon order, allowing you to put your initials or a small insignia in its place – hence the name Micromilspec Monogram. Whether you want to commemorate a person’s name, a family crest or perhaps a military unit, it’s very versatile. I’m sure we’re all familiar with the concept of an engraved caseback, but customising the actual dial of the watch is a much bigger step in the direction of personalisation.

The case of the Micromilspec Monogram is very robust with 200m water resistance and a 42mm diameter in stainless steel (as opposed to the titanium Milgraph). It has the look of a facetted sports watch like the Zenith Defy Skyline with its octagonal shape and quasi-integrated strap or bracelet. As for the caseback it features an exhibition window that reveals the movement inside, which is the Sellita SW200-1.

I really enjoy the mixture of ideas at play in this watch because they all mesh together really well. It remains practical and sporty with a military edge while also being the most pared back and casual of Micromilspec’s designs. An off-duty soldier. Plus, the unique aspect of the customisable dial makes it intriguing. Although because of those customisations, the watch is strictly made to order for a limited time period at a price of £1,300 with orders closing on December 31^st.
